Peachtree City school prepares for dual events

Famous African American legends "Harriet Tubman" and "Booker T. Washington" will be visiting Peachtree City Elementary School Feb. 22.

These legendary Americans will make themselves available for interviews with fifth grade students. The students will have an opportunity to ask them questions about their lives and events that helped to shape American history.

The interviews will be taped by the fifth grade classes and will be broadcast throughout the school in February during the morning announcements.

Tubman and Washington are being brought to the school courtesy of faculty members Beverly Kiel, physical education teacher, and Roderick Bailey, third grade teacher. These teachers will portray Tubman and Washington by dressing as they would have during their era.

Kiel and Bailey have prepared for their roles by researching the history surrounding these two famous African Americans.

"I think it is great that we have staff members who are willing to do projects like this," comments Principal Lynda Lambeth.

In addition to having two famous Americans visit the school, Peachtree City Elementary also will host its school-wide science fair on the same day. The fair will take place in the media center. Student projects will be broken into categories and judged on creativity and neatness. Winners will receive certificates from the school.

"We always have some extremely interesting projects. We look forward to seeing what the students are going to come up with each year," said Lambeth.

Approximately 170 entries are expected to be on display during the fair.
