County Web site upgrades continue

Fayette County's Web site has added still more new services.

The site, at www.admin.co.fayette.ga.us, is being updated and upgraded, not as a onetime project, but as an ongoing process, says webmaster Marc Rogers.

"We want to get to where the folks use the web site as an alternative to picking up the phone," said Rogers, who is working full-time to enhance the site.

The last week of January saw the addition of the Public Library area to the Web site. Users have access to a calendar of events that is constantly updated; a listing of library services, including genealogy information; and, through Public Information Network for Electronic Services, the ability to search the catalogs of the Public Library and over 100 PINES libraries in Georgia.

Material on the Friends of the Library, a listing and description of Computer Assisted Instruction classes, and library policies, including Internet use, also is posted.

Also of interest is the history link, which has information on the earliest days of the library and pictures of the original library. There is a Public Library button on the county's home page that will take users directly to the library's Web area.

"Members of the library staff, including [director] Chris Snell and Beverly Snow, were extremely helpful in pulling together the library's Web site," said Rogers.

The Board of Elections and Voter Registration area has undergone some changes. If someone you know needs to register to vote, the state of Georgia application for voter registration is available for download in a PDF format.

In addition, the application for oabsentee ballot form is available in PDF format. The Question and Answer area has been updated to include information concerning 2001 elections.

Visitors to the Recreation Department area are now able to download registration forms for classes. Once again, this is a PDF version of the department's registration form.

The Water System is another new addition to the county's Web site. The Water System area has information on administration, storage/system improvements, helpful hints and related items. To view the Water System's area, go to the county's main page and select Water System from the "jump-to" menu.
