Teen driving bill still underway in House committee

A draft bill on teen driving laws is still being worked on by the House Motor Vehicles Committee in the Georgia Legislature.

Sen. Mitch Seabaugh, R-Newnan, who is on the Senate's Public Safety Committee, said Tuesday that the House is trying to write one comprehensive bill that likely won't include all the ideas brought forth during the debate on the issue.

For instance, Seabaugh said he thinks raising the driving age to 17 in metro Atlanta counties won't make it into the final bill.

Also, the curfew rule will likely be refined from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. or midnight, with elimination of any restrictions on that curfew, Seabaugh said. That would make it easier to enforce, he added.

The House Motor Vehicles Committee should be finished with the bill at the end of this week, Seabaugh estimated.
