The Carriage Lane Presbyterian Church, Peachtree City, has come a long way since its beginning in the mid-1980s, from meeting in homes to outgrowing its first sanctuary to breaking ground for a new one.

Sunday, Feb. 25, the congregation will go out front after the 11 a.m. worship service for a ground breaking ceremony.

The new sanctuary will seat about 750 persons and will have space for future class rooms and offices. The $2.7 million structure will also contain a full basement that will be used for additional classrooms and storage.

Pursuing its desire to reach the world for Christ, this past summer the senior high youth group went to Huancavalica, Peru, where they spent several weeks in evangelism and teaching Vacation Bible School. Summer 2001 will find them back in Peru and another group will be going to Neuweld, Germany.

The past two summers, the junior high youth have traveled to Cherokee, N. C. to minister to the Cherokee Indians. This past summer they spent a full week teaching a Vacation Bible School and making repairs to several of their facilities.

In late summer, a group of five adults returned again to the Czech Republic and spent two weeks teaching God's word and giving encouragement to a small Reformed church in Zlin.

On a local level, the church has a MOPS program, or Mothers Of Pre-School children. It is a ministry open to the local community on each second and fourth Thursday morning. On first and third Thursdays a Bible study is offered.

"Children Desiring God" is conducted each Wednesday evening. Bible lessons, fellowship and a light snack are available for preschool through sixth grade.

Doug Griffith has served as the pastor at Carriage Lane since 1990. He continues the objectives of the church; pursuing a vital worship demonstrating the presence and power of God; pursuing the application of the word of God, pursuing wholeness found in relationship with Christ and His church; pursuing the application of the word of God; and pursuing the witness of His love.

Sunday School for all ages begins at 9:30 a.m. and the worship service begins at 8:15 a.m. and 11 a.m.

The church is at 101 Carriage
