Geography bee winners announced

Do you know the answers to these questions:

"Maghreb" is the collective name for the Arab countries that make up much of the northern part of which continent? The largest temperate rain forest in Canada is along the Pacific cost of which province?

Many Fayette County students would know the answers to these questions and many more.

All Fayette County elementary and middle school students participated this year in the National Geographic Society's Geography Bee. Students took tests in the classroom to determine which students would be represented in the school bee.

The students who won at the school level will take a written test and the top 100 students in Georgia will participate in the state geography bee in April. Individual school winners are listed below.

By the way, the answers to the questions are Africa and British Columbia.

Elementary school winners are:

Braelinn Rick Hagauer; Brooks Danni Dezell; Burch Stewart Ellis; East Fayette Luke Wilkinson; Fayette Intermediate Lauran Wilkerson; Huddleston Carson Crandall; Kedron Emma Kearney; North Fayette A. J. Ellis; Oak Grove Kevin Harrell; Peachtree City Kent Dunson; Peeples Melissa Troyer; Spring Hill Jack Slagle; Tyrone Cassie Light.

Middle school winners are:

Booth Andrew Wedemyer; Fayette Travis Giebler; Flat Rock Ravi Dayabhai; Rising Starr Sam Leon; Whitewater Robin Kittrell.
