Pearson guilty plea hearing postponed

The family of murder victims allegedly shot to death by an elderly Fayette man over a year ago came expecting to see justice in court.

Issac Jerry Pearson, 66, was expected to plead guilty to the murder charges Monday morning. Instead, the hearing was postponed because one of Pearson's attorneys had a conflict over the weekend and could not prepare for the hearing, announced Superior Court Judge Paschal English.

The matter will be postponed indefinitely until it is appropriate for the case to go forward, English said..

Because of the seriousness of the charges, it is important for everyone involved to be fully prepared, English added.

Pearson was arrested days after the bodies of the victims were found in their home on Deer Forest Road, east of Fayetteville, in December 1999. Authorities claim Pearson shot his common law wife, Barbara Clark, her sister Donnie Gee, Gee's daughter, Nichole Underwood and Gee's granddaughter, Daeyana Burton.

Warrants issued at the time indicated the shooting took place between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m.

In a bond hearing after he was arrested, Pearson said he and Clark had moved here from Cincinnati just six months prior to the killings. At the time, Pearson was working as a real estate agent in Clayton County.
