Fulton County wants to get serious about redevelopment in Red Oak.

As part of Fulton County's ambitious efforts to redevelop South Fulton County, county planners are offering an ambitious plan to make Red Oak one of the more desirable parts of the county.

The county defines the area's boundaries as the east side of Ben Hill Road and all properties along Lee Drive and extending eastward along the west frontage of Campbell Drive to the Red Oak Townhouses.

From there the boundary continues to the East Point city limits and includes Washington Road, Yates Roads, Whites Road to the rear property boundary of residential lots on Kent Road.

The Housing Authority of Fulton County is currently seeking an enterprise zone designation for the area, which could help development because of lower taxes.

Other recommendations include:

F Working with the Economic Development Department to identify economic development partners.

F Developing a demonstration housing project using federal funds.

F Assisting in creating a neighborhood organization to empower the residents of Red Oak and seek alternative funding for the redevelopment program.

Residents with ideas are encouraged to contact the county's economic development director, Joseph Johnson, at 404-730-8000.
