Essay contest slated for local sixth-graders

The City of Peachtree City is seeking sixth-graders to participate in an essay contest entitled "If I Were Mayor."

The contest, which will be administered by the Georgia Municipal Association, is open to all sixth-graders, and entrants do not have to live in Peachtree City to qualify. GMA will select one winner from each of Georgia's 11 congressional districts to receive a $250 savings bond and other prizes.

Mayor Bob Lenox said the contest will give local sixth-graders a chance to learn more about city government.

"I am anxious to see what issues our children feel are important in Peachtree City," he added.

Each essay must remain within a 250-word limit, and they will be judged by GMA on creativity, clarity, sincerity of thought and proper use of grammar.

Essays must be submitted to J.C. Booth Middle School, Rising Starr Middle School or City Hall by March 1 to qualify for the contests. Entry forms are available at all three locations, and questions may be referred to City Hall at 770-487-7657.
