Newnan Mayor Keith Brady has allowed a drop-off box to be placed in the city manager's office for the Scouting for Food event this year.

The food drive began last Friday when Scouts in the Coweta Distric started placing Kroger bags on door knobs, railings and any place that would be visible to area residents.

Scouting for Food will help replenish the Salvation Army's shelves in the organization's efforts to help feed the poor.

Last year the Scouts in Coweta collected 5,376 items for the local Salvation Army and for the Flint River Council more than 39,188 items were collected.

If you did not receive a bag, the Scouts are urging residents to take some time, visit the new City Hall and bring some cans or visit food drive sponsor Kroger.

The food will be picked up from area homes Saturday between 9 a.m. and noon.

To make life easy on all, the following are suggestions for bag holders:

F Put the bag out the night before.

F People with long driveways should leave the bags at the end of the driveway.
