Serenade your valentine

If your sweetie yawned last year when thanking you for the roses and candy you gave her on Valentine's Day, it may be time to add a little spice when you deliver your annual declaration of love.

Consider having a barbershop quartet serenade your loved one with a medley of "old time" love songs! Four quartets from the popular Southland Chorus dress in style to woo your valentine with songs, bringing a small box of chocolates, a silk rose and a personalized card. They also capture the occasion on film for you!

The quartets will sing at any location in Fayette, Coweta, Spalding, Clayton and South Fulton counties Feb. 13-14. The Singing Valentines are in strong demand so a quick call to reserve a time slot is recommended.

The prices for the service are $35 if they can come anytime during the day, $45 within a three-hour window or $55 within a one-hour window.

Conrad Harris, Southland Chorus Public Relations Chair, noted, "This is a fun time for all of the guys who are able to participate in the singing of valentines to young and older-than-young lovers. We love doing it as much as they love receiving it."

A large portion of the funds raised from the groups second-largest moneymaker is donated to charity. The Chorus supports a number of local charities, including the Southwest Christian Hospice and Hope House. Some of the money is also used to support the Chorus itself. The group shares its singing talents at many local charitable occasions throughout the year.

The Southland Chorus is a "men's cappella chorus singing barbershop-style four-part harmony," according to Harris. The Chorus is comprised of approximately 25 voices and is continuing to grow. The Chorus is open to any man who can "carry a musical note in some form or fashion."

The nonprofit group practices Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. at the Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church on Peachtree Parkway in Peachtree City. To schedule your Singing Valentine, call 770-228-2023 or 770-461-5174.
