Delta pilots organize first national pilots' charity fund
The Delta Air Lines Pilots Association has announced the formation and first gift from the Delta Pilots Charitable Fund. The fund, supported by individual contributions from members, will be used to support local charitable activities related to children in select Delta hub cities. It is the first charitable fund established, managed and funded entirely by the pilots of a major U.S. airline. In Atlanta, the Charitable Fund will purchase a pediatric ambulance for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. In addition to their gift to the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Foundation, pilots will distribute aviator bears, complete with flight jackets and aviator goggles, to more than 150 children currently at the hospital. The Delta Pilots Charitable Fund includes funds contributed directly from Delta pilots. In order to maximize the value of the contributions, fund donations will be made in select cities where Delta pilots are based and where Delta pilots reside, including Atlanta, Boston, Cincinnati, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, Orlando, Salt Lake City, Miami and Chicago. The Air Line Pilots Association International represents the Delta pilots. Nearly 10,000 pilots at Delta are represented by ALPA on issues affecting the pilot group as a whole, including contract negotiations, contract administration and enforcement, and retirement benefits.
