News Briefs

Three Fayetteville restaurants are now licensed to sell liquor by the drink. The City Council approved applications by Malone's, Applebee's and Coba at Thursday night's meeting amid very little discussion and no public comments. In fact, Malone's didn't bother to send a representative to the meeting, and neither did Coba, a new Mexican restaurant that simultaneously received approval for a beer and wine license. A district representative of Applebee's told council that if state licensing procedures went smoothly, pouring could commence as soon as Monday night.

It appears as though the new state flag will not be flying over City Hall in Fayetteville anytime soon. That's not the city's fault, however, as the state will need a couple of months just to get new flags manufactured and sent to the various municipalities. According to City Manager Joe Morton, state law requires every local government that receives state funds to fly the official state flag, but since that is logistically impossible for several weeks, Gov. Roy Barnes signed an executive order last week allowing the old flag to remain in the air at municipal buildings across the state until replacements arrive.
