Fayette school system gears up for teacher recruitment

The Fayette County Public School System is looking for a few good men and women to join its team of dedicated teachers and support staff.

Friday, February 9, the school system will hold its first job fair of the calendar year to recruit people to fill certified teaching and support positions for the 2001-2002 school year. The fair will take place at the LaFayette Educational Center in Fayetteville by appointment only.

In an effort to help recruit teachers in critical need areas such as mathematics, science, special education, middle grades mathematics and middle grades science, a $1,000 signing bonus will be offered.

Additionally, current teachers of the Fayette School System can benefit by helping recruit teachers. Any certified staff member, other than an administrator, who recruits an applicant signing a contract in Fayette County will earn an extra day of personal leave during the 2001-2002 academic year. Teachers who want to participate in this program need to complete a "Recruit a Teacher Earn a Day Off" form available in their individual school offices or the Human Resources Department.

Anyone wishing to participate in the job fair Feb. 9 should call the Human Resources Department at 770-460-3535 by Feb. 7 to set up an interview for the day of the fair. Interviews will be scheduled between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Applicants will need to bring a resume to their interview.

For interested applicants who cannot attend the job fair in February, two other fairs have been scheduled for March 9 and April 20 at the LaFayette Educational Center.

Additional information about the school system, salary, benefits, test scores and community may be obtained from the Fayette County Board of Education web site, www.fcboe.org, or by calling Human Resources, 770-460-3535.
