News Briefs

There is no shortage of local high school sports action in the next few days, as postseason play lurks just around the corner.

All four county high schools will be competing on the basketball court Tuesday night. McIntosh hosts North Clayton and Sandy Creek hosts Heritage, while Fayette County travels to Henry County and Starr's Mill plays at Newnan. Tipoff for varsity action at all four sites should be about 6 p.m.

The local wrestling squads do not compete again until next weekend, but that will be region tournament time. All of the mat action can be found right here at home, as Fayette County hosts the 4-AAAAA meet and all of the 4-AAAA teams will square off at Sandy Creek. Both tournaments start Friday afternoon.

Also on tap for Friday is the county swim meet at Kedron Aquatic Center.

The Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Commission approved four requests at Tuesday night's meeting a setback variance for a single lot in the Highland Park subdivision, a rezoning from residential to office-institutional for 335 North Jeff Davis Drive, rear elevations for the new World Gym location in the Fayette Corners shopping center, and development plans for a new Larry's Subs restaurant on Ga. Highway 85 North.

A special exception request for a car wash on Hwy. 85 was tabled.

Offshoot Productions' presentation of "Twelfth Night" continues today at 3 p.m. at the old Fayette County High School.
