Like many
state government officials, newly elected student leaders from McClarin
High School recently took their oaths of office at the Capitol Rotunda
in downtown Atlanta.
State Sen.
Donzella James administered the oaths of office and, following the swearing-in
ceremony, Gov. Roy Barnes congratulated each new student leader and
posed for photographs.
During the
short visit, Barnes discussed the responsibilities of public office
and praised the students' initiative and dedication in seeking class
offices.
McClarin
Principal Michael Jones said the ceremony and visit from Barnes made
a positive impression on the students.
"I saw
this as a great opportunity for the students to see the importance of
their new offices and have their achievements recognized by our school
and our state leaders," Jones said. "Our students had the
experience of a lifetime."
