Job vacancies will likely absorb job cut at TDK Electronic Corp.

The elimination of 180 jobs at TDK Electronic Corporation in Peachtree City will likely be offset by a strong demand for jobs.

Tate Godfrey told the Development Authority of Peachtree City Monday night that the current job demand at other industries in the city will likely swallow up those left jobless.

"Job demand is still growing strong," Godfrey said, adding that Photocircuits still needs people, Panasonic just expanded and SST is preparing to open up.

"Hopefully, it will get absorbed pretty quickly," he said.

Godfrey also said there were several new industrial prospects that are "close" to coming to Peachtree City.

TEC announced last week that it will close its manufacturing operations at its local plant, which produces VHS videotapes and recordable CDs. Although 180 jobs will be cut, as many as 100 of those could be hired for an expansion and existing positions at TEC's sister company, TDK Components USA.

Approximately 100 employees will remain at the TEC plant for packaging purposes, according to the company.

TEC recently celebrated its 20th anniversary of manufacturing VHS tapes here. CD-R production began approximately three years ago.

The company will conduct job fairs at the plant and invite a variety of potential employers to the plant in attempts to help employees find new jobs. It will also hold employee workshops on resume preparation and successful job interviewing skills.
