PTC Council meet tomorrow moved up to 6

To allow for extra time to discuss possible changes to the city's charter, the Peachtree City Council will start its meeting Thursday at 6 p.m. instead of 7 p.m.

Council is also slated to discuss the city clerk position during the regular portion of the meeting.

The charter review process has been spearheaded by councilwoman Carol Fritz, who has said the document needs updating since it was first created back when the city was much smaller.

City Attorney Rick Lindsey has been reviewing the charter to suggest possible changes to council.

One of those potential changes involves the city clerk position. At its previous meeting, council voted 4-1 to appoint City Manager Jim Basinger as city clerk for three months.

Mayor Bob Lenox had explained that the move was necessary to improve management structure since the city clerk was the only city employee who doesn't report directly to Basinger.

Although council declined to reappoint Nancy Faulkner as clerk, it was said her duties and pay would not change during the three-month period. Three months would give council enough time to determine whether any changes could be made to the charter, since those changes must first be approved by the Georgia legislature.

Council will also discuss:

The possibility of locating a traffic light at the intersection of Ga. Highway 74 north and the northern entrance to Kedron Drive.

A request to provide sewer service for the new location of Braelinn Baptist Church, which would be partially in the city and partially in Tyrone.

A policy to regulate employee use of e-mail and Internet access.
