First liquor applications on council agenda By MONROE
ROARK Liquor could be flowing in two Fayetteville restaurants by Feb. 2, or as soon thereafter as stock can be delivered. Since the new liquor-by-the-drink ordinance was approved by the City Council earlier this month, five eateries have obtained application forms for licenses and three have returned them, according to City Clerk Judy Stephens. Those three Applebee's, Coba Mexican restaurant, and Malone's Steak and Seafood are on the agenda for the Feb. 1 City Council meeting. A council workshop is scheduled for tonight at 7 p.m. at City Hall. Representatives of Longbranch and Ruby Tuesday have obtained applications but have not returned them, Stephens said. All except Coba are already open for business, and Coba is applying for a beer and wine license simultaneously. Since the other four had beer and wine licenses in place, certain parts of the application process, such as police background checks, have already been taken care of, and the process of obtaining a liquor license can be completed more quickly. Other business scheduled for upcoming council meeting includes: Reorganization and appointments to the Downtown Development Authority and Main Street board of directors. Bid awards for chlorine safety equipment and a sewer truck for the Water Department. Setting the qualifying fee for this year's City Council elections. Beer and wine license for the Amoco at 610 Lanier Ave. west. First readings of a revised speed zone ordinance and an amendment to the sign ordinance. First reading of an amendment to the storm water management ordinance regarding detention pond fencing materials. A proposed rezoning from R-30 (residential) to O&I (office-institutional) for Compass Financial Services at 335 North Jeff Davis Drive.
