Inverness subdivision plan to be studied by PTC Planning Commission Monday

The latest concept plan for the new Inverness subdivision for John Wieland Homes on the west side of Peachtree City will be reviewed by the Peachtree City Planning Commission at its meeting Monday night. The plan has changed "quite a bit" from its original design, said City Planner David Rast. It now includes more open space for small park-type areas and a very nice amenity center for residents of the subdivision. To gain the open space the plan had to be re-designed to include 110 townhomes. That required the City Council to lift its moratorium on multi-family housing, which it did at its last meeting. In September, council approved a plan to have no more than 350 homes on the 101 acres inside the city and an additional 80 acres adjacent to the property that are in unincorporated Fayette County. Simultaneously, council agreed to rezone the property from general industrial to general residential despite a recommendation to deny the rezoning from the planning commission. The townhomes cover approximately a third of the proposed subdivision, according to Dan Fields of John Wieland Homes. Fields agreed to design covenants that would strictly limit the townhomes from become rental properties. John Wieland Homes hopes to have the first homes occupied in the spring of 2002.
