Memory Walk 2001 plans underway
After a successful Memory Walk 2000, plans began immediately for 2001, according to a spokesperson for the event. Key personnel met in Peachtree City for the selection of the new chairmen for the 2001 effort as well as to plan the logistics of the year 2001 walk. Peachtree City's own Fred Brown, former mayor for 10 years, and Iola Snow, retired benefits administrator of Big Star Foods, were selected as cochairmen for the 2001 campaign. Brown worked with the Heart Association for 12 years, while Snow was on the Greater Atlanta March of Dimes Walk America Team Walk Committee for 10 years. Both were previously involved in the Southern Crescent Memory Walk 2000. The 2000 walk was the last Saturday in September. Total dollars raised were $73,185, consisting of contributions from sponsors and money raised by teams and by individual walkers/runners. A total of 61 teams and more than 450 walkers participated. Teams consisted of employees from small, medium and large business and organizations, and residents from subdivisions who organized into teams. The Talbot Bank hosted a "thank you" party for the organizers and workers of the Southern Crescent Memory Walk in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Chapman.
