Water restrictions eased

The recent winter rains have caused the Coweta County Commission to lower outdoor water restrictions this week.

Effective immediately, water use restrictions have been reduced to only those imposed by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division of the Department of Natural Resources.

Newnan Utility reservoirs have increased to 80 percent of capacity, according to Water Department head Harry Hughes. That increased capacity resulted in Newnan Utilities easing water restrictions last week.

Coweta County has been following the actions of Newnan Utilities as its largest customer.

Currently, Newnan Utilities is the sole provider of water to the Coweta County Water System.

The state-imposed restrictions are as follows:

Outdoor water use is permitted on an odd-even basis except from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

For example, if you have an odd-numbered address, you can water on odd-numbered days between midnight and 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. to midnight. Even-numbered addresses would do likewise on even-numbered days.

Penalties for violation of the restrictions will remain the same. Those penalties are:

• First offense written warning.

• Second offense water shut off until $200 fine is paid.

• Third offense water shut off until new tap fee is paid (up to $1,000).

• Fourth offense water shut off until water ban is lifted.
