Water facility may be moved

Fayette County's Water Committee is considering moving its distribution plant on Kelly Drive to land at the Crosstown Water Treatment Plant in Peachtree City to make life better for residents of the area.

"It's in a residential area, and the neighbors don't like us cranking up the equipment at 2 o'clock in the morning," said Water System director Tony Parrott.

In its meeting last week, the Water Committee directed engineering consultant Jim Mallett to draw up a site plan for new facilities at Crosstown, which is in a more industrial area.

The Kelly Drive facility was built in 1965, when there were few homes in the area, said Parrott. Now that subdivisions have sprouted all around the facility, it's time to go, he said.

"We've always tried to be a good neighbor," he said.
