First-ever Thursday meeting is cancelled

It will be another two weeks before the Fayetteville City Council begins conducting Thursday night meetings.

Tomorrow's meeting has been cancelled because of lack of agenda items, City Clerk Judy Stephens told The Citizen late last week.

Last Wednesday's workshop was attended by three councilmen out of six. Only two items, both on the consent agenda, were discussed bid awards for chlorine safety improvements, and a bid award for a sewer truck.

The next council workshop is set for next Wednesday, Jan. 24, with the regular meeting to follow Feb. 1.

The City Council, which had been meeting first and third Mondays, voted Jan. 8 to change to the first and third Thursday. This will give more time between workshops and regular meetings, and it will avoid necessary rescheduling of meetings due to Monday holidays.
