Fayette County's government continues to update its Web site to provide new information and make the site easier for residents to use.

The site, which is reached at www.admin.co.fayette.ga.us, now offers more complete information on property taxes, including address-specific information, and residents also can now register for recreation programs or apply for a job with the county online.

There's also a new page for the county's E-911 center.

The site is being updated and upgraded, not as a onetime project, but as an ongoing process, says Marc Rogers of the Information Systems Department.

"We want to get to where the folks use the web site as an alternative to picking up the phone," said Rogers, who is working full-time to enhance the site.

The 2000 digest property tax information can be found at http://www.admin.co.fayette.ga.us/property/propsearch.asp .

Users may search for property information by owner's name, address or subdivision. Search results yield general information regarding the property. Users then have the option of selecting "Details," which will take them to a more in-depth listing of information for that particular piece of property, says Rogers.

Folks who are interested in working with Fayette County are now able to download an application for employment at http://www.admin.co.fayette.ga.us/humanres/application.asp . The application is in an Adobe Acrobat file so users will need to have the Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on their computers. This is a free download and there is a link from the application page to the Adobe site where users can download the Adobe Reader. In addition, current employment opportunities are listed and are updated weekly.

Class registration forms are at http://www.admin.co.fayette.ga.us/recreation/registration_form.htm for activities provided through the Recreation Department. As with the application for employment form, users need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader to download and print the class registration form. Classes and activities for winter 2001 are listed on the Recreation Department's site.

The Communications Center (E-911) Web site is now up and operational. Information on the history of 911, frequent questions, and related items are contained in this area.

Other recent innovations include a new navigation system online, in which departments and services will be grouped in logical ways.

"This type of grouping will continue to occur so that users are never more than a click away form the county's main home page," said Rogers.

"From the main home page, users can then select a different area to view, such as the government section, which has information about county departments and services. The departments' page, which is under the government section, contains a listing of county departments with a brief description of their functions as well as contact, address and e-mail information. More departments will be added to this page," he said.

A new "jump to" menu also is on the home page, so surfers can scroll down the list and select a page.

A "news and information" area now is regularly updated with information about changes to the web site, county events and links to new additions to the web site.

Plans are to soon include an employee directory, with searches by name or by department.

Future plans include more interactive services, such as online payment of water or tax bills and applications for service.

There's also a "mail-to" link at the bottom of the home page.
