Tyrone residents could soon get a new post office.

That's the word from Town Manager Barry Amos, who confirmed that officials from the U.S. Postal Service will be briefing the Town Council about their plans Tuesday.

"They're looking for a two-acre site within a mile of the present location," he said.

Amos did not have any further details, but said officials would inform the council of their wishes for a new building.

In other news, the council will conduct a public hearing on a 33-acre tract on Senoia Road, near the Oglethorpe Power substation.

The tract is currently zoned for four different classifications and Amos said the town is petitioning to have it rezoned to industrial classifications.

The Town Council also will have its annual retreat this weekend at the Hampton Inn in Peachtree City. The retreat runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Amos said the town will go over its goals for the year, but said no major items are slated to be discussed.
