Raymon Johnson dead at 80 Former Fayette County Commissioner Raymond D. Johnson, 80, died Jan. 3, 2001. He was born July 7, 1920 in Arp, Texas. A Peachtree City resident, he was an original Waffle House franchise owner near the Atlanta Airport and was the first owner of the Waffle House in Fayetteville. He was a past president of the Hapeville Lions Club, was a National Birdshow judge and its president from 1969 to 1971. He was a member of the Antique Car Club and owned Ames, Morman and Model T automobiles. He was well known in the 1970s for his menagerie of animals when living in Fayetteville. Many children remember enjoying the horned sheep, buffalo, ostriches, peacocks and most of all, the lion. When baby deer were injured or lost their mother, they were brought to Johnson for recuperation. He was a county commissioner from 1978 to 1982. Services were at the First Baptist Church of Peachtree City with the Rev. Steve Bingham, the Rev. Bill DeLay and the Rev. Brent Johnson officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Survivors include his wife, Sara Mae Johnson, Peachtree City; sons Allen and Linda Johnson, Mesquite, Texas, Roger Johnson, Rockwall, Texas; a daughter, Debbie and Lynn Routon, Peachtree City; grandchildren Brent and Holly Johnson, Houston, Texas, Stacy and Kyle Browning, Frisco, Texas, Heather and Jeremy Suetter, Mesquite, Texas, Myson and Rachel Johnson and Chad Johnson, all of Rockwall, Texas, Callie Routon and Tyler Routon, both of Peachtree City; great grandchildren Natalie Browning, Frisco, Texas, Devon Johnson and Avery Johnson, Rockwall, Texas; a brother-in-law, David Clarke, Greenville, S.C., and a daughter-in-law, Avis Johnson, Rockwall, Texas. Memorial donations may be made to the Building Fund, First Baptist Church, 208 Willow Bend Road, Peachtree City, GA 30269. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Peachtree City, was in charge.
