The original plan of those starting the Crestwood Baptist Church in 1968 has not changed it still has in view the support of missionaries worldwide.

The church is pleased to support over 40 missionaries in 15 countries and firmly believes that reaching people on every continent is the job of a local church.

A Sunday School for every member of the family is held, in the belief that practical Bible applications are of special concern to every age and it also allows persons with a common interest to come together in Christian fellowship.

The Tyrone church currently enjoys a membership of 85 and also supports a Christian Academy for children K-4 through 12th grade. The congregation is proud to enable children to enjoy academic excellence in a Christian atmosphere. The school was begun in the fall of 1973.

Ministering at a youth detention center has been added to its menu. Several members travel to Griffin once a week and speak with about 20 youth.

This summer members will be attending a conference in Chicago and also doing some mission work in Canada.

The pastor is Ferrel Dowdey, who has been with the church for 11 years. Though a graduate of Georgia Tech with a degree in chemical engineering, he felt the call of the Lord after six years in the corporate world. He serves not only the church but is on the faculty of its academy.

Sunday School starts at 10 a.m., followed by the morning service at 11. The Sunday evening service is at 6 p.m. and the Wednesday evening service is at 7 p.m.

The Crestwood Baptist Church and Christian Academy are located at 734 Senoia Rd., Tyrone, and can be reached at 770-487-4852.
