Building codes discussed at HBA meeting

Building officials from the area were on hand at the Home Builders Association of Midwest Georgia's November meeting to discuss recent changes in building codes.

The event was held recently at WhiteWater Country Club, and the speakers included Ron Garrett from Meriwether County, David Mundt from Fayette County, and Tom Carty from Peachtree City.

The November meeting is also Spike Appreciation Month, and members who have done an outstanding job of recruiting new association members were saluted. These included Jeff Betsill, Patsy Dunagan, Dennis Floyd, Doris Ford, John Hayes, Curt Hirsch, Kenny Johnson, Greg Lewis, Carl Owen, Richard Simms, Jerry Tedder and Dan Zavada.

Recognized during the meeting were Plymart, the corporate sponsor for the gathering, and Southern Community Bank, which is serving as an underwriter sponsor this year.

Association President John Hayes announced that there were 103 attendees at the recent Midwest Georgia HBA workshop on "Georgia's NPDES Permit for Construction." The one-day course offered information on how builders can meet the requirements to obtain an NPDES storm water permit issued by the state.

Immediate Past President Betsill, who with Chad Floyd supervised construction of the association's Scholarship House, reported that the current Scholarship House, located in Willow Dell in Senoia, is "complete and ready for a homebuyer."

The Home Builders Association of Midwest Georgia serves builders in Fayette, Coweta, Spalding, Heard and Meriwether counties. More information about the association can be obtained by calling 770-716-7109.
