ARC slates hearing on Fayette impact fees
The Atlanta Regional Commission will have a public hearing on Fayette County's plan for impact fees to help pay for fire services Jan. 16. Impact fees are charged to developers to help defray the costs of government services and facilities made necessary by growth. Fayette plans to charge the fees to help pay for four new fire stations and other fire facilities. Both the Atlanta Regional Commission and state Department of Community Affairs must approve the plan, and county officials say the fact that a hearing has been scheduled means that the plan has gone through the agency's initial approval process. The public hearing is considered a formality. The hearing will be at 8 a.m. Tuesday at the ARC offices, 40 Courtland St., downtown Atlanta.
