Judge reduces bond for stabbing suspect By JOHN
MUNFORD An Atlanta man in the Fayette County Jail since June for aggravated assault has had his bond reduced. Friday afternoon, Superior Court Judge Ben J. Miller reduced the bail for Ronald Ricardo Richardson, 27, from $150,000 cash to only $50,000. Miller noted that Richardson had no prior criminal record, was gainfully employed and had honorably served in the armed forces. Richardson turned himself in to authorities in June after he learned there was a warrant for his arrest. According to that warrant, Richardson stabbed a man in the stomach and throat in an attempt to kill him at a location in Fairburn. Richardson testified that he was a teacher for Atlanta Public Schools and that his supervisor told him he could have his job back even while he was charged with aggravated assault. Miller said the bond would be issued conditionally, based on Richardson and any of his representatives refraining from making contact with the victim. Also in court Friday, two people entered guilty pleas which Miller accepted. Billy Wayne Phillips pled guilty to being a habitual violator and was sentenced to five years probation. Chiteka Atwaters pled guilty to one felony count of theft by deception and was sentenced to five years probation and a $5,000 fine.
