News Briefs

The Fayetteville City Council gathers Monday at 7 p.m. at City Hall for what is likely its final Monday meeting. The council is expected to vote on moving its meetings to the first and third Thursday of each month, beginning Jan. 18.

Workshop meetings will be scheduled eight days before each regular council meeting.

This move is mainly for two reasons having the Wednesday workshop before a Monday meeting often does not leave city staff enough time to gather information pertaining to a specific council request in only three business days; and the Monday meetings are invariably victim to rescheduling several times each year because of holidays, such as was the case last week, when New Year's Day fell on a Monday.

Other agenda items this week include a second reading on the city's proposed liquor-by-the-drink ordinance, a second reading on a proposed ordinance regulating swimming pools, and a proposed resolution amending the city's pay and classification plan.

Regular annual appointments are also expected Monday.

The first meeting of Fayetteville's new Historic Preservation Commission is scheduled for Monday at 4 p.m. at City Hall.

The Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Commission will hold its monthly workshop meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. at City Hall.

The McIntosh Chiefs host the Fayette County Tigers Tuesday in basketball, while the County Duals are held on the Sandy Creek wrestling mat.
