Shelter available for homeless men

Homeless men seeking to escape the frigid temperatures at night can find a warm haven at Fulton County's Jefferson Place Emergency Shelter.

At 1135 Jefferson St., northwest Atlanta, the shelter admits homeless men 18 and over from 5 - 9 p.m., weekdays and weekends.

The facility can accommodate 150 people per night in the gymnasium.

Persons can register to be admitted for up to 120 days. They must show valid picture identification such as a driver's license, military card, or a prison, work or state-issued I.D. A Social Security card, printout or a birth certificate can be shown as a temporary substitute, but a picture I.D. must be obtained within a week of registering.

Checkout time is 6 a.m. each day.

Operated by the Fulton County Human Services Department, Jefferson Place also provides long-term transitional housing for up to 24 months while participants receive case management, health care, employment assistance and other services to help them become self-sufficient.

For information, phone 404-874-0412.
