Bidders get bargains as Palmetto unloads surplus The city of Palmetto got a little richer Tuesday night. Mayor Clark Boddie opened bids on seven pieces of salvage equipment the city was seeking to eliminate from its Public Works Department. When all the bids were opened, the winning amounts totalled nearly $6,500 for the city's coffers after the winning bidders drop off their certified checks at City Hall. Clark did emphasize that if the winning bidder did not show up, the second place bidder could be awarded the bid, if the bid was close to the original. More than 30 bids were taken on pieces of equipment ranging from a 1985 Ford Ranger to a mower and a 1994 Ford LTD. In other news, the council: Approved the Fayetteville law firm of Bill McNally to serve as the city's attorney. "We've had a good relationship with them over the years," Boddie said. The council also chose the Southside Neighbor, the Newnan Times Herald and the Fulton Daily Report as the city's legal organs. Announced that City hall will be closed Jan. 15 for Martin Luther Ling Jr.'s birthday. "If you've got any business at City Hall, get it done that Friday," Boddie said.
