CCY program to put spotlight on youth volunteers
By JOHN
MUNFORD
The Peachtree City Commission on Children and Youth is sponsoring a week-long program aimed at recognizing the volunteer contributions from local youths. Children's Week will be celebrated April 22-28, said CCY Coordinator Bernice Wassell. The activities will include service projects for schools with students from Peachtree City so they can participate in making their surroundings a better place, Wassell said. Also, the CCY is looking to honor students who have contributed to their community in significant ways through volunteerism and community service, Wassell said. Students will be honored at a CCY meeting on May 1, she added. Local teachers will be asked to nominate students for the awards. Teachers should receive nomination forms in the next few weeks, Wassell said. "We want to reward students who have performed exceptional community service," Wassell said. "We also want to highlight what the schools can to do contribute to community service projects." Students from every grade level all the way through high school will be recognized through the awards program, Wassell said. "We're looking for good citizens who have contributed to community service in an extraordinary way," Wassell said.
