PTC planning commission to consider upscale apartment complex for seniors

The concept plan for a proposed 144-unit upscale apartment complex for seniors at the intersection of Crosstown Drive and Peachtree Parkway will be considered by the Peachtree City Planning Commission at its regular meeting Monday night.

The complex, called The Parc at Peachtree City, has drawn complaints from residents of the Village Park subdivision, which is just south of the proposed project. The residents are worried the complex would create too much traffic and construction vehicles would damage the privately owned entrance road to their subdivision.

The property is the last parcel of land in Peachtree City that's zoned for multi-family residential use.

A Prime Communities representative has committed to working with Village Park residents to minimize the inconvenience construction of the project might cause. Roy Dickson pledged that Prime Communities would repair any damage to the road after construction ceased.

Other Village Park residents complained about the proximity of the complex's design to their backyards. Some said they were worried about noisy dumpsters being emptied.

But Dickson said the company would work to mitigate such problems, not only for the benefit of Village Park residents but also for the benefit of The Parc residents also.

Employees of the complex would create little traffic with a maximum of eight to 10 employees on duty at one time, Dickson said.

Dickson indicated that he wanted to work with the neighborhood association at Village Park to address their concerns.

The "independent living" complex will be targeted to seniors 65 and older, Dickson said. Plans call for golf cart storage on site and a chipping and putting green at the rear of the facility.

The complex will have emergency crews available 24 hours a day to respond to medical emergencies. It will also include a dining area and other activity rooms although health care will not be provided, Dickson said.

The complex will be owned and operated by Prime Communities, Dickson said.
