Newnan Crossing gets low marks By JOHN THOMPSON According to a recently released report, one of the state's worst elementary schools is in Coweta County. Newnan Crossing Elementary School is ranked 1,062nd out of 1,086 schools. Each year, the Georgia Public Policy Foundation analyzes each of the state's schools using test scores and poverty rates to present an overview of how schools rank across the state. The foundation averages the math and reading scores on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. The report card also figures in the percentage of fifth grade students with scores above the 50th percentile in reading and math. The study also looks at the poverty rate for each school. The poverty rate is determined by the number of students eligible for free or reduced lunches. Other rankings included: Northside 77th. Canongate 106th. White Oak 116th. Poplar Road 151st. Moreland 250th. Elm Street 256th. Thomas Crossroads 283rd. Jefferson Parkway 284th. Western 367th. Arnco-Sargent 381st. Arbor Springs 614th. Eastside 662nd. Atkinson 794th. Ruth Hill 898th. Next week, the Coweta Citizen Review will examine middle and high school scores.
