Police to get old pipe Peachtree City's Police Department will benefit from aborted plans to build a Fayette County reservoir back in the '70s. Plans to build Lake McIntosh, which currently are moving forward, were going full tilt about 25 years ago, and the county Water System bought and stored numerous lengths of 30-inch pipe associated with the project. Now those pipes sit rusting on a piece of property on a dirt road just off TDK Boulevard, just west of the Planterra Golf Course. Police Chief James Murray noticed the old materials and wrote to Water System director Tony Parrott, saying his officers would like to use the pipe in an obstacle course they're planning to build to test new applicants. Murray asked for four to six of the pipes, but the county Water Committee last week voted to give the department all of them if they'll just haul them away. The County Commission must still approve the request. Dave Hamrick
