Sumner Road needs to be paved

There has been too much talk and not enough action on getting Sumner Road paved. Sumner Road is a disgrace for Peachtree City.

It is hard to believe why any member of the Peachtree City Council would want to keep a primitive, horse and buggy road in their city. Most of our residents drive motorized vehicles.

This unpaved section of Sumner Road is the only "safe" way to get in and out of the Smokerise subdivision on the east side. It's the shortest way to Peachtree City business and has the necessary traffic light.

I have been driving over this poorly kept road for over six years. I average one round trip a day going to the business section of Peachtree City. Each trip saves me two miles. That is over 700 miles a year.

If this road were paved, I'm sure over a hundred residents of Smokerise would use it each day. That would save over 70,000 miles each year of the pollution that is plaguing Peachtree City. It would save a lot of wasted gasoline.

I can't understand why a few selfish-minded people would want to keep this primitive dirty road in Peachtree City. There are hundreds of Smokerise residents who would benefit and be thankful if Sumner Road were paved.

This road should be paved now, in its own size without gutters, and not disturbing trees. If in another 10 years it needs to be widened, do it then. Meanwhile, it would benefit people now, save a lot of pollution and save a lot of money.

The only paved exit for Smokerise on the east side is next to the EMC building. This has one stop sign. It is awkward and dangerous trying to enter the traffic on Ga. Highway 54 that is going over 60 mph. Maybe if someone is killed in an accident at this intersection, Sumner Road would be paved.
