News Briefs Fayetteville is looking for a new Main Street director. Shellie Reed resigned Monday, according to City Manager Joe Morton, after about six months on the job. Reed had previously worked for Sherri Anderson, the former Main Street director, then assumed the top job earlier this year. Anderson left after charging former City Manager Mike Bryant with sexual harassment. Reed began working for the city in the fall of 1999, Morton said. "We're sorry to see Shellie leave, and we wish her the best," he said. "We have seen some progress with the Main Street program during her tenure." Morton said Reed was leaving because of other career opportunities and not due to any problems with the city. City officials are now reviewing the job description, which Morton said is customary when a position becomes vacant, and expect to announce the opening no later than right after the holidays. It looks like it will be January before Fayetteville restaurants can start serving liquor. The City Council had planned
to approve amendments to its beer and wine laws to include sales
of liquor by the drink at Monday night's meeting, but decided during Wednesday
night's workshop meeting to put it off until its first meeting in January.
Staff needs more time to make sure that new provisions in the ordinance
don't unfairly burden stores that currently sell beer and wine.
