PTC Airport Authority takes no action to revise lease rates for hangar area

The Peachtree City Airport Authority did not revise its leasing rates for parcels in the new Hangar Area B during its regular meeting Wednesday night.

A proposal on the table would have set the costs at 45 cents per square foot with extra costs charged to commercial entities.

The commercial charges would have worked out to a minimum additional 10 cent per square foot. The motion capped it the maximum total at 95 cents per square feet.

After the motion failed, the authority moved on to its next item on the agenda without considering another motion on the lease rates. The matter was continued from the authority's November meeting.

Authority member Jerry Cobb said if the lease rate was set too high, the area wouldn't develop right away.

"I don't think we'll get 55 cents a square foot," Cobb said. "I don't think you'll get a lot of offers at 45 cents."

Authority Chairman David Good pointed out that Falcon Field's leases allow the customer to assume ownership of the property after the 20-year agreement expires. He said some other airports in the area retain ownership of the property with improvements after the leases expire.

Cobb said airports who retain the property after the lease generally offer longer lease terms. Good added that he didn't necessarily think the airport should retain the property.

A total of 120,750 square feet of space will be available for lease at Hangar B, said Airport Manager Jim Savage.

In other business, the authority approved a motion to host the Wings Over Dixie 2001 Airshow and Festival in September of next year with hopes the authority can participate in funding if possible.

Authority Chairman David Good said it would have been nice to financially support the show this year, but the authority was under financial constraints.

Authority member Catherine Nelmes said she didn't think the authority is solid enough financially to commit to financial backing of the show. However, that could change by next year, she said.
