Residents on Hutchinson Ferry Road in Palmetto will soon have city water flowing.

During Monday night's council meeting, the council approved a $124,000 contract to Warren Grading to install 5,500 feet of eight-inch water line and eight fire hydrants along the road.

Nine companies bid on the project and the council decided to go with the low bid.

City Administrator Bill Shell said he expects the work to start after the first of the year.

In other news, the council:

Thanked Jason Breeding for his tenure on the Palmetto Housing Authority Board of Commissioners. Breeding had served on the board since 1997 and resigned earlier this year when he moved out of the area.

Announced that City Hall will be closed Dec. 25 and 26 for the Christmas holidays. City Hall also will be closed Jan. 1.

Rescheduled the City Council meeting from Jan. 1 to Jan. 2.

Complimented the town's staff for the work it did during last week's tree lighting. The town is aglow with holiday lights and the council appreciated the work that went into the ceremony.
