Fulton's school superintendent named best in the state
The Georgia School Superintendent Association named Fulton County Superintendent Stephen Dolinger, Ph.D., the Georgia School Superintendent of the Year. The award was presented during the GSBA's 50th Anniversary Conference. "Steve Dolinger has proven himself as an outstanding leader and has become a role model for others in public and private organizations," said Herb Garrett, executive director of the association. "He is a skilled communicator, a respected educator and an admired public servant. It is our honor to recognize him with this award." As Fulton County superintendent, Dolinger oversees 70 schools, 70,000 students, 8,000 employees and a half-billion-dollar annual budget. Since his appointment in 1995, the school system has established a learning organization focused on results and has received state and national accolades for its student and staff achievement, staff development program, business practices and communication efforts, according to the GSBA. In addition to his duties as superintendent, Dolinger also serves on the board of directors for numerous education and civic organizations, including Urban Superintendents of America and the Georgia Humanities Council. Prior to coming to Fulton, Dolinger spent 26 years with the Fairfax County School System in various teaching and leadership programs. Dolinger now represents the state in the National Superintendent of the Year program.
