Band director calls it quits

East Coweta High School is looking for a new band director.

Superintendent of Education Richard Brooks confirmed this week that band director Dennis Naughton had tendered his resignation.

"He didn't give any reason for it," Brooks said.

Naughton will continue to work at the school until the end of the year, Brooks added.

Naughton was involved in a controversy earlier this year when he allegedly made a band student strip to his underwear during a football game.

Naughton was suspended for two weeks without pay for the incident, but the Coweta County Board of Education declined to fire him because of conflicting stories about the incident.

The incident galvanized the community and Naughton's future has been the subject of much speculation.

Naughton could not be reached for comment.
