Some students may be changing schools

Five proposed changes to attendance zone lines previously approved for the 2001-2002 school year were presented to the Fulton County Board of Education during its November board meetings.

Planning, research and policy and transportation services staff members proposed the changes with input from several other Fulton County School System departments.

Staff proposed changes to accommodate issues that have arisen since the lines were approved in December 1999.

For information on the proposed changes to the 2001-2002 attendance zone lines, contact the Research, Planning & Policy Department at 404-763-6854 or e-mail burkep@fulton.k12.ga.us or to greenwaym@fulton.k12.ga.us.

The following represents the proposed changes to the 2001-2002 attendance zone lines presented to the Fulton County Board of Education during its November meetings.

About 50 students in the Rhodes Plantation and Hopewell Plantation areas approved for redistricting to Manning Oaks Elementary School will remain at Alpharetta ES. This prevents multiple moves for students that would feed into future new school.

About 100 students approved for redistricting to Big Creek ES site will go to Lake Windward ES.

The neighborhood is closer to Lake Windward and frees up capacity at Big Creek ES to accommodate growth and makes better use of capacity at Lake Windward ES and Esther Jackson ES.

About 100 students approved for redistricting to Scott Road ES site will remain at Esther Jackson ES.

This makes the best use of instructional capacity at Esther Jackson ES and accommodates growth in the Scott Road ES site attendance area.

About 10 students approved to remain at Mimosa will be moved to Hembree ES site because the students are closer to Hembree ES site.

About 180 students approved to remain at Northwestern Middle School will be moved to Hembree Road MS site to reduce the overcrowding at Northwestern MS and make better use of available capacity at Hembree Road MS.
