County OKs art contracts

The Fulton County Board of Commissioners approved contracts at the Nov. 15 meeting for artwork to be created for three county facilities.

The contracts total $58,500, with the majority to be spent on artwork for the new Juvenile Court facility.

The Art in Public Places Resolution, adopted by the board in 1993, provides for artwork to be placed in new Fulton County facilities.

Funding is provided through 1 percent of the construction budget.

Donald Haugen and Teena Stern will receive $8,300 to create a bronze sculpture of a young boy walking to art class. The piece will be installed at the entrance to the Abernathy Arts Center's new facility, which is being constructed at 254 Johnson Ferry Road, Sandy Springs.

Ray Pierotti will receive $6,250 to create a series of interior panel paintings for the H.J.C. Bowden Senior Multipurpose Facility, 2885 Church St., East Point.

Martin Dawe/Cherrylion Studios Inc. will receive $44,000 to create a large-scale, low-relief sculptural work to be installed on the east and west walls of the atrium in the new Juvenile Court building. Work began recently on this facility at 395 Pryor St., Atlanta.
