Fairburn settles on ambulance provider

After a transition period earlier this year, the city of Fairburn has decided to use Med Tech as its primary ambulance carrier.

Earlier this year, Fulton County switched ambulance services in the South Fulton region and asked municipalities to use the county's ambulance provider.

Since the switch, Fairburn officials have been using Med Tech and have been extremely pleased with the results, said City Administrator Tony Cox.

City officials decided to reject Region Three EMS Council's recommendation that the city contact Fulton County 911 for an ambulance.

Cox said the city already has its own 911 service, which can provide quicker dispatch than calling Fulton County.

When a call is made to Fairburn's 911 center, the ambulance is dispatched at the same time as any fire equipment that is needed.

Because of the quickness of the dispatch time, Cox recommended the city continue dispatching in-house and continue using Med Tech as the private ambulance provider for the city.

Council unanimously approved Cox's recommendation.
