Rezoning hearing continued for more lofts at Lexington Commons in PTC
By JOHN
MUNFORD
The sense of urgency surrounding the rezoning request for the Lexington Commons mixed-use project in Peachtree City seems to have subsided. The lead developer on the project, Bob Adams Homes, asked for and received a continuance on the public hearing that the Peachtree City Planning Commission was scheduled to conduct Monday night. The hearing will be at the commission's next regular meeting Dec. 11. In a letter to the city, Bob Adams requested the continuance to give the commission more time to review the information. "The application is extremely important for the city of Peachtree City and deserves enough time for due diligence," Adams wrote in the letter. Bob Adams Homes is seeking a rezoning that would add 100 more loft apartments and reduce the amount of commercial square footage at Lexington Commons. The development already has a limited use commercial zoning for a maximum of 16 residential units per acre. But the rezoning request is for a LUC zoning with a maximum of 18 residential units per acre to account for the new lofts in the plan. Several residents have spoken out against adding more loft units, claiming the development would have an adverse effect on the school system. Adams has indicated that if the Planning Commission acts on the rezoning at its Dec. 11 meeting, he would ask the City Council for a continuance until Jan. 18 to give council enough time to review the application and since he will also be out of the country during part of January. If the rezoning is not approved, the property's zoning would revert to its original version of the limited use commercial designation.
