Liquor ordinance
up for council review
By MONROE
ROARK Less than a month after a liquor-by-the-drink referendum was approved by Fayetteville voters, the City Council will consider a first reading of a proposed liquor ordinance at tonight's workshop and Monday's regular meeting. The ordinance has already received considerable attention, including about two hours of discussion at last week's annual city retreat. State law calls for the measure to be in place within 60 days after the Nov. 7 election, and if there are no complications, the council could approved a second reading at its Dec. 18 meeting. Also on the council agenda is a sign variance request for the soon-to-be-open Ruby Tuesday restaurant across Ga. Highway 85 from Fayette Pavilion. According to city officials, restaurant management wants to install a third sign but is allowed only two signs according to the recently amended sign ordinance, since the restaurant fronts two streets. A second reading of the city's updated zoning map is scheduled for the meeting, as well as a first reading of an amended noise ordinance, which is simply a housekeeping measure due to new state regulations, city officials said.
