Stores lose 3 days' business in underage alcohol sting

By JOHN THOMPSON

Three convenience stores in Fairburn paid the price last week for selling alcohol to underage patrons.

During last week's City Council meeting, City Administrator Tony Cox said the city had agreed to a deal with the three stores to have their licenses suspended for three days as restitution for the violations.

Oct. 6, the Fairburn Police Department conducted an investigation into complaints that alcohol was being sold to minors. An underage male went into the Pit Stop at 647 Senoia Road, the Fairburn Chevron at 1865 Ga. Highway 74 east and Green Oil at 7860 Senoia Road and purchased alcoholic beverages without being asked for identification.

After the investigation, city officials met with representatives from the three stores and reached a plea bargain to have their alcoholic beverage licenses revoked for three days.

The stores were not able to sell alcohol Nov. 16, 17 or 18.

Cox said the suspension sent the message that Fairburn will not tolerate this type of activity.
