Two former PTC mayors treated at Fayette Community Hospital

Former Peachtree City mayors Fred Brown Jr. and Howard Morgan were both patients in the intensive care unit at Fayette Community Hospital at the same time recently.

Both are happy to report they're back at home and doing fine. And both said they were treated very well by hospital staff during their stay.

Brown told The Citizen that he was in intensive care for a suspected heart attack, although doctors finally determined that his chest pains were from a hiatal hernia. He stayed in the ICU overnight and was sent to a private room later after taking a stress test to make sure he was okay. He was released the next evening.

"I feel great," Brown said from his home Monday afternoon.

Morgan said he was sent to the hospital following a routine exam since his doctor suspected his blood thinning medication wasn't working. He underwent emergency surgery so doctors could implant a screen to block blood clots from traveling to his heart.

Morgan marveled at all the technology that was used to monitor him, especially a device that allowed doctors to see inside his kidney. "It was the most intensive medical care I've had," he said.

Morgan spent only two days in intensive care, but he spent a total of six days in the hospital.

"I'm feeling pretty good," Morgan said from his home Monday afternoon.

Morgan said it was "peculiar" that both he and Brown were hospitalized at the same time. Brown agreed that the timing was odd.

Brown served as mayor from 1982 to 1992. Morgan preceded him, serving as mayor from 1972 to 1978.
